Japan Airlines (JAL) has been introducing some nice coffee on its domestic flights earlier this year. And they will finally expand the offering and introduce an exclusive line of high-quality coffee called JAL CAFE LINES on all of its flights. From September 1 2011, the JAL CAFE LINES new beverage service will be introduced in all JAL international and domestic flights.

Preparing a good cup of coffee is tricky up in the air. It requires good preparation and timing. JAL has worked with world-class Coffee Hunter Mr. Jose Yoshiaki Kawashima and roasting expert Mr. Tomohiro Ishiwaki to develop JAL CAFE LINES. They ran a month of trial on domestic first class back in September 2009 and the results are so good that they went ahead to develop the full line up. ALL of these premium coffee will be served FREE OF CHARGE in all cabins. JAL estimates it will serve up to 10 million cups domestically and 5 million cups internationally in a year.

Below is the coffee beans used for JAL CAFE LINES
International First Class - Finca Selva Negra (El Salvador)
International Executive Class/Domestic First Class - Bourbon Special (El Salvador)
International Premium Economy and Economy Class - Regular 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica Coffee
Domestic Class J and Economy Class - Freeze-dried 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica Coffee
Hawaii Routes (All Classes) - Maui-produced Mocha Coffee
Domestic (All Classes) - JAL CAFE LINES Iced Coffee* - 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica Coffee
* Period available: July 21 to end of September 2011

For those in Japan who aren't flying on JAL any time soon and still want to try this out? No problem! JAL will run a promotion at the WIRED CAFE NEWS at Nihonbashi Mitsu Tower for two weeks starting from August 25 2011. Price of the coffee ranges from 450 yen for a cup of JAL CAFE LINES coffee to 1,200 yen for the hot JAL CAFE LINES First Class coffee (those served in international F?)

For more details, JAL has created a special page (Japanese only) for the JAL CAFE LINES. Or you can refer to their press releases (Japanese, English). For more pictures of the press conference, plejase visit JAL Official Facebook page.
