Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced it will enhance its popular Domestic First Class offerings from June 2013. This time it is the breakfast and lunch menus that will get the enhancement, while JAL will continue its collaboration with famous local restaurants in the region featured in the JAPAN PROJECT during the month. Currently JAL offers Domestic First Class on select flights between Tokyo Haneda and Osaka Itami, Sapporo Chitose, Fukuoka, and Okinawa Naha.

Based on customer feedbacks, JAL will be adding a fresh fruit set to the breakfast menu so that customers can have a good start for the day. JAL will carefully select fruits that are in season. The set shown above will be featured in the June breakfast menu.

Some of you might already know that JAL alternates between Western and Japanese breakfast set every 10 days or so in Domestic First Class. However, the same fresh fruit set will be served throughout the month. Below are the comparisons between the June and May breakfast sets.

Note that the fresh fruit set is actually an addition to the current menu, i.e. JAL isn't replacing other items to add the fruits to the menu. Possibly due to lack of space, JAL chose to replace the cup of coffee in May's western set picture with the fresh fruit set in June's picture. Even though the coffee is no longer shown in the picture, you will still be able to order the carefully selected premium coffee from the JAL CAFE LINES at any time during your flight.

Breakfast is served on flights departing on or before 10:59 JST.

For lunch, JAL will be replacing the existing desserts with ones carefully selected from well-established Japanese confectionery companies. JAL will update the offerings monthly. Unlike the current desserts, JAL will wrap the new desserts individually and will be presenting them in a box so that passengers can easily take them home if they choose to do so.

During the month of June, JAL will be serving Monaka from Kuya, a well-established store based in Ginza, and Taiyo Dorayaki from the Sorairo brand created by the 5th generation owner of Kuya.

Monaka basically is a crispy wafer sandwich filled with red bean jam. But what's special about the Monaka from Kuya is that they are limiting the number of production every day in order to preserve the traditional taste passed down through generations. It's sometimes hard to buy it even at their stores.

Dorayaki is a pancake sandwich filled with red bean paste. Sorairo has carefully selected the red beans and sugar used to make the red bean paste. Therefore it has a very refreshing sweetness.

Before this change, JAL used to offer different desserts on flights departing from Haneda and arriving Haneda. But with the latest enhancement, flights in both directions will get the same dessert menu.

These dessert items will be available on flights departing between 11:00 and 16:59.
